Angel Santarossa successfully defended his PhD thesis with the title “Experimental research and enhancement of granular gripping systems”
May 19, 2025 – In his thesis, Angel Santarossa investigated the mechanical phenomena in granular materials underlying the functionality of granular grippers using X-ray imaging for various granular sizes. Additionally, he investigated the substitution of air inside the gripper with a density-matched liquid, to compensate gravity with buoyancy, having as aim the fluidization of the granulate in the unjammed state to reduce the needed force for a successful gripping.
